THE Pembroke LIBRARY

A writer, based in Richmond, needed a library to house her 5000+ book collection alongside a reading and study space.

A two and a half storey extension to her Grade 2 Listed Villa houses this within a contemporary portal steel frame structure. The bespoke joinery included a secret desk space, staircase integrated into the joinery units, and a glass and timber mezzanine.

The relationship between the house and garden was improved by opening up the rear of the lower ground floor. The garden was re-landscaped which exposed a previously concealed original well.

Other works competed included remodelling to the entrance hall, bathrooms and ancillary spaces.
